Fall 2008 Tarsi Cup

The first annual Tarsi Cup was a tournament of many firsts. For the first time ever, we welcomed a team from outside our league, The O'Brien's Machine from our kickball Motherland, Milwaukee WI.

I, for the first time ever, watched a game go to 13th inning, ending in a ridiculous game of 5 on 5 after the wind gusted 3 straight innings of foul-outs.

This was also the first time ever, Tarsi, for whom our tournament is now named, lost on their home soil (in supposedly, their last game ever).

First Round

#09 Jiminy Kick-Its handily defeated #08 Dollz N' Ballz, 11-1.

#04 O'Brien's Machine blanks #13 The B-Squad, 15-0.

#05 The Unmentionables m'unts 12 times (yes, I kept count) in 6 innings to victory over #12 The Sasshole Sports Empire, 4-3.

#07 A.R.T.D. defeats sub-ridden short handed #10 Shockers, 6-0.

#14 The Dipsomaniacs upset #03 Gimme Your Lunch Money II, 3-2 in 9 innings.

#11 Playground Bullies knock out #06 Red Rubber Showdown, 4-0.

Second Round

#01 Can't Quite Score Enough defeated #09 Jiminy Kick-Its, 9-2.

#04 The O'Brien's Machine knocked out the #05 Unmentionables, 9-4.

#02 Tarsi squeaked out a 13th inning win over #07 A.R.T.D., 5-4.

#14 The Dipsomaniacs continued their Cinderella run, defeating #11 Playground Bullies, 6-5 in 8 innings.

Final Four

#04 The O'Brien's Machine destroyed #01 Can't Quite Score Enough, 24-9.

#02 Tarsi ended #14 The Dipsomaniacs run, 16-4.

Tarsi Cup Final

#04 The O'Brien's Machine, takes home the Tarsi Cup defeating #02 Tarsi, 5-4, scoring the go ahead run in 8th inning after a back forth match-up.

Until next Season!...

Sasshole Sports Empire versus Smelt It, Dealt It

In week 3, the Sassholes met the team that handed them their only two losses of the previous season, Smelt It Dealt It. In a defensive struggle, tied at 1 in the bottom of the 7th, Leraw blew the doors off the Sniffers lock down defense by crushing a 3 run home run into left field scoring 656 and Sunkist. Just to make it interesting, the Sassholes allowed another 2 runs in the top of the 8th to make it look close.
The Sassholes are now riding high into the bye week by finally getting a 'W' against a rival in the making Smelt It Dealt It team.

Sasshole Sports Empire versus The Unmentionables

In a fantastic, back and forth game, Leraw stepped to the plate with 2 outs, 2 on, in the top of the 9th inning, trailing the Undies 6-5. After receiving a motivational pep talk that go down as in history as the "Don't Suck" speech, Leraw broke through the Undies defense, scoring 656 and bringing the game into a rare regular season extra innings match-up.
Stephen lead off the 10th inning with heroic left-footed double into a defense that was now down to 10. Rath feeling the pressure of Stephen's massive manliness on his shoulders, knocked in Stephen, and the go-ahead run with a double of his own, only to have the Undies again match, with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning.
Now only fielding 9 in 11th, neither the Sassholes or the Undies were able to crack each others armor, leading to the 12th inning. Fielding only 8 total, no catcher and 3 outfielders the Sassholes were unable to get a base runner in the top of the inning. The Sassholes took the pitch in the bottom of inning fielding a similar defensive layout, and quickly allowed 3 base runners while the Undies dropped a few bunts and one massive, gutless manbunt, by their captain, into a defense of only 8 players, to score one run, take the game, and humiliate themselves with their lack of sportsmanship. This is life at Fort Snelling...
  • Kelley: 1 for 5
  • Dean: 2 for 4

Sasshole Sports Empire versus Kochenbalz

The #09 ranked Sassholes started out the 2008 Fall season with a convincing win, 7-1 over the #07 ranked Kochenbalz. Maybe the fall is our season, as we went back to our dominating, lock-down defense. The Koch-less-balz even resorted to dropping a few manbunts late in the game to no avail. Dean Bean, however needs to re-learn how to kick...
  • Kelley- 3 for 3, 1 Run, 1 Double, 7 Innings Pitched, 1.29 ERA
  • Dean- 0 for 3
Another big game next week as we tip off against the #04 ranked Unmentionables at 9 PM.

2008 Spring EOS Tournament

For the sixth time in a row, Tarsi took home the MUSA MN Championship trophy by beating out Can't Quite Score Enough, 4-0. Tarsi reached the championship game by first beating the Shockers, 12-1 then Balls Deep II, 11-0.

A Balls Deep II team, that in their first ever season in MUSA, went 7-0 in the regular season to reach the EOS tournament before beating the Sasshole Sports Empire in a tightly contested match-up, 5-4. They next took care of the Tricky Richardsons, 6-5 in an epic extra-inning, 3 run scoring, walk-off double.

On the other side of the bracket, the Can't Quite Score Enough squad first faced off against the St. Paul Gnarly Balls, winning 5-0 before facing Nagma Inc in the final four. That game went into a 1-1 tie into the next to last inning before Nagma gave up 3 runs on right field blooper that probably could have easily been caught had the ball not seemed to be sailing well out of bounds before the wind pushed it, just barely back into play.

All in all, a fantastic, beautiful sunny day that Sassholes were just happy to be apart of.
  • Dean- 1 for 3, 1 Double
  • Kelley- 2 for 3

Sasshole (Kickball) Championship v Smelt It, Dealt It

In the Pac-Man division championship game, playing for a bid into the Spring Minnesota state End-of-Season tournament, the Sasshole Kickball squad could not live up to the hype, losing 3-1 in close battle with a up and coming Smelt It, Dealt It team.

The Sassholes will be back for the Fall season, as they branch out to annoy and destroy new teams in the city of Minneapolis at the Fort Snelling Sports complex. Season starts in early August!
  • Dean- 2 for 3
  • Kelley- 2 for 3

Sasshole (Kickball) Playoffs v Kickballski's

PLAYOFFS! The Empire opened up Pac-Man division post-season with a bang, scoring two runs right away in the 1st inning and piling on 1 more every inning through 5 until finally getting blanked in the sixth. The Sassholes knocked the Kickballski's out of contention, winning 9-2 after giving up a couple cheap runs in the 8th and 9th. The Pac-Man division championship is next week against the only team to have beaten the Sassholes this season, Smelt It Dealt It...
  • Dean- 3 for 5, 1 Run, 1 Triple
  • Kelley- 2 for 5, 2.00 ERA

Over-Sporting? The Month of May Recap.

This is first image that came up on a google image search on "Too Much Sport".

Okay, it's been over a month since our last blog... Who would of thought sporting four consecutive days in a row (Mondays - Thursdays) would take up so much time?...

So here's were we're at:

Mondays- Sasshole Sports Empire (Softball)
After wining our first game out against DCM Services, we then got our butt's handed to us in our first ever 10 run loss against Cuzzy Freight Dogs, 1 - 11. Week three was dramatic, bottom of the ninth, two outs, come behind (lucky) win over NMDP Searchers, 20 - 19. Week four we worked over the Heavy Hitters, 19 - 7. This week the Beans will be taking the night off against the Slamma's in order to check out Adele at Theatre de la Jeune Lune. More to come on that tomorrow...
Through four games:
  • KJ- 4 for 11, 5 Runs, 2 Walks
  • Dean- 7 for 11, 5 Runs, 2 Doubles, 2 Home Runs, 8 RBIs, 1 Walk
Tuesdays- MUSA Field Monitoring (Dean) & Cleveland Steamers Kickball(Kelley)
Tuesdays at Phelps Park kind of suck. There's a Boys & Girls club attached to the field and the little buggers are constantly running in out of the games. I kind of wish one of them would get hurt...
Cleveland Steamers are fielding an unusual roster this year, doing the opposite of most teams with the bare minimum of men (4) playing each game and fielding 7 ladies. The Steamers are definitely pretty in pink and having lots of fun, but have lost the first 3 games to St. Paul's Gnarly Balls, Playground Bullies & Tony Danza Extravaganza. Oh well, let's head to Adrian's.

Wednesdays- Sasshole Sports Empire (Kickball)
After jumping out to a huge win in week one, The Sass took one on the chin, losing to Smelt It, Dealt It 8 -3 in week two. Week three was another blow-out over the Kumquat Kicks! 24-0. Weeks four and five were pretty easy wins over Kickballski's 12 - 2 and Don't Kick Our Cheerleader... 16 - 3. The Sassholes will be taking this week off before starting the first round of the playoffs on June 11 as the 2nd seed.
Through five games:
  • KJ- 10 for 21, 7 Runs, 5 RBIs
  • Dean- 13 for 23, 9 Runs, 1 Triple, 4 Home Runs, 11 RBIs
Thursdays- Leaning Tower of Pizza (Kelley) & RH Puff N' Stuff (Dean)
The Leaning Tower of Pizza has started out really well with some big wins in a very tough division and still have a shot at the division title. LTop took out the ranked RH Puff N' Stuff in week one in a Bean-on-Bean match-up, The Crushinators in week two and the Killazz in week three, before losing to division leader Can't Quite Score Enough in week four. Pizza bounced right back, beating another ranked team in week five, Gimme Your Lunch Money II. With only two games left and holding second place firmly, LToP takes on the Kickbusters this week.
RH Puff N Stuff have played up and down all season, losing games they should win, but having fun along the way. Puffy started out taking one on the chin, losing to rival Bean team Leaning Tower of Pizza. Week two Puffy rolled Gimme Your Lunch Money II, before taking a big win over highly ranked Unmentionables in week three. Puff N Stuff again rolled in week four over the Kickbusters before blowing the lead and post-season hopes against the Crushinators in week five. Puffy takes on division leader, Can't Quite Score Enough this week in a game for pride.

We'll try and do better job staying on top of this blog in the future, as we don't really want to play four nights a week anymore.... I miss my Netflix.

SassHole Sports Empire- Kickball Week 1

The Empire opened the season with a game against, Kick Me, a brand new team to MUSA. We kind of kicked the shit out of them. Oops. We jumped down they throats right of the gates and didn't stop until no one on the field was having fun... Well, we still did ;). Final score, SassHoles 36, Kick Me zero.
  • Dean- 4 for 6, 3 runs, 7 RBIs, 2 Home runs (1 Grand Slam)
  • Kelley, 5 for 5, 3 runs, 1 RBI, Pitched a shut out.
